Study tests if cutting acidic foods protects kidneys in diabetes

NCT ID NCT07587918

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how a diet low in acid-forming foods (like meat, cheese, and grains) affects kidney function and blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Researchers will compare a high-acid vs. low-acid diet over 8 weeks in 80 adults, also examining differences between White-Dutch and South-Asian Surinamese groups. The goal is to understand, not yet to recommend, dietary changes for kidney protection.
