First seen Jan 03, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tests whether a Brazilian heart-healthy diet, with or without added plant sterols and krill oil, can improve cholesterol levels in people with familial hypercholesterolemia (a genetic condition causing very high cholesterol). 300 adults and teens will be randomly assigned to one of four diet-plus-supplement groups for 120 days. The goal is to see if these additions lower LDL cholesterol and lipoprotein(a) better than diet alone.
