Greek registry aims to map hidden genetic cholesterol disorder

NCT ID NCT03140605

First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study creates a registry for people with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in Greece, a genetic condition that causes very high cholesterol and early heart disease. Researchers will screen adults aged 18 to 80 to learn how common FH is and describe the health of those affected. The goal is to gather information, not to test a new treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this registry could provide a clearer picture of how common familial hypercholesterolemia is in Greece and help guide future screening and treatment efforts.

What could go wrong

This is an observational registry, not a treatment trial. It will not directly test any therapy, so its impact depends on how the data is used afterward.
