Can a special glass heal diabetic foot wounds and fight bone infection?
NCT ID NCT06598241
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a borate-based bioactive glass fiber matrix, a special dressing that releases minerals to help heal wounds, in people with diabetes who have foot ulcers and a bone infection. Researchers will watch 20 patients to see if the glass helps the wound close completely and safely. The goal is to find a better way to treat these serious wounds in real-world settings.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
borate-based bioactive glass fiber matrix (a special glass material that helps wounds heal)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a better way to treat hard-to-heal diabetic foot ulcers with bone infection, possibly reducing the need for amputation.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 20 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The glass material may not work for all wounds, and there is a risk of infection or poor healing.
