Silent threat: hidden infections may cause diabetic wounds to reopen

NCT ID NCT05172089

Summary

This study aims to understand why diabetic foot ulcers often reopen after they appear to have healed. Researchers will test if a hidden type of bacterial infection, called a biofilm, causes the skin to heal with a weak barrier, making it prone to breaking open again. They will measure water loss through the healed skin in about 405 patients to see if this predicts ulcer recurrence.
