Hormone therapy tested for deadly lung pressure disease

NCT ID NCT03648385

Summary

This study tested whether a hormone called DHEA could improve heart function in people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a serious condition causing high blood pressure in the lungs. Twenty-six participants took either DHEA or a placebo for 18 weeks, then switched, while researchers measured changes in their heart's pumping ability using MRI scans. The goal was to see if DHEA could be a helpful new treatment strategy, especially since PAH affects women more often than men.
