Can a wearable sensor beat fingersticks for hospital diabetes care?
NCT ID NCT06752928
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using a Dexcom G7 continuous glucose monitor (CGM) instead of standard fingerstick blood sugar checks leads to better blood sugar control and fewer dangerous lows in hospitalized adults with type 1 diabetes. One hundred participants will be randomly assigned to either the CGM or fingerstick group during their hospital stay and after discharge. The goal is to see if the CGM helps keep blood sugar in a safer range.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Dexcom G7 continuous glucose monitor (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that continuous glucose monitoring improves blood sugar control and reduces dangerous lows during hospital stays for people with type 1 diabetes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (100 participants) comparing a device to standard care, so results may not apply broadly. The device itself has known accuracy limitations and skin irritation risks.
