Summary

This study tests whether giving a single dose of the steroid dexamethasone just before minimally invasive spine fusion surgery can lower back pain afterward and reduce the need for strong painkillers like morphine. Sixty adults aged 50–80 having one- or two-level spine fusion will be randomly assigned to receive either dexamethasone or a placebo (salt water) before surgery. Researchers will measure pain scores and morphine use for up to 24 hours after the operation.

Inclusion Criteria: * Age range: 50-80 years old. * Undergoing MIS TLIF surgery at 1-2 spinal levels. Exclusion Criteria: * Previously undergone spine surgery. * HbA1C greater than or equal to 7.5 mg% * Allergic to all types of experimental medication. * History of using systemic steroids.
