Lung cancer trial tests immune booster with chemo and radiation
NCT ID NCT02525757
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding the drug MPDL3280A (a type of immunotherapy) to standard chemotherapy and radiation is safe for people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer that cannot be surgically removed. About 52 participants will receive the combination and be monitored for side effects and how long their cancer stays under control. The goal is to see if this approach can improve outcomes without causing too many severe side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
MPDL3280A (atezolizumab) combined with carboplatin, paclitaxel, and radiation therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a safer and more effective treatment plan for people with advanced lung cancer that cannot be removed by surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Adding MPDL3280A to standard therapy could increase side effects like immune-related inflammation.
