Allergy drug could help rheumatoid arthritis patients
NCT ID NCT07632872
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing whether adding desloratadine, an allergy medication, to standard rheumatoid arthritis therapy can reduce joint inflammation and disease activity. Sixty adults with active RA will receive either desloratadine or a placebo for 12 weeks. The study measures changes in disease activity scores and inflammatory markers to see if this common drug offers extra relief.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Desloratadine 5 mg
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new add-on treatment option for rheumatoid arthritis patients who still have active disease despite standard therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 participants and a short 12-week follow-up. The results may not be strong enough to change practice, and desloratadine might not provide meaningful benefit over placebo.
