Better denture fit? tiny study tests scanning methods

NCT ID NCT07290322

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two methods of making 3D-printed dentures: scanning directly inside the mouth versus scanning a traditional mold. Eight people with no teeth will try both types of dentures to see which one stays in place better. The goal is to find out if the newer, more comfortable intra-oral scan leads to a better-fitting denture.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

3D-printed denture fabricated from intra-oral or extra-oral digital scan

What this could lead to

If one scanning method proves better, it could guide dentists toward a more comfortable and precise way to make dentures that stay in place better.

What could go wrong

This is a very small study (8 people) that only measures retention, not long-term comfort or durability. Results may not apply to all patients or denture types.
