Dental implant showdown: zirconia vs. titanium frameworks tested for durability
NCT ID NCT07657364
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial compares two types of full-arch dental implant frameworks—one made from a single piece of zirconia and the other from titanium with a zirconia top—in people who have lost all teeth in one or both jaws. The goal is to see which material leads to fewer mechanical problems and better quality of life over a year. Participants receive either framework and are monitored for complications like cracks or loosening.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Monolithic zirconia prosthesis or titanium framework with zirconia superstructure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that monolithic zirconia frameworks are a durable, less complication-prone option for full-arch dental implants, improving patient quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 12 participants and a 12-month follow-up, so results may not apply broadly. Both materials could show similar complication rates.
