Bridging the gap: link workers aim to boost dental visits for mental health patients

NCT ID NCT07470437

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether a 'link work' intervention can help people with severe mental health difficulties attend routine dental appointments. 480 participants will be assigned to either the link worker support plus usual care, or usual care alone. The study measures whether they attend a dental visit and how their oral health quality of life changes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
link work intervention (behavioral)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simple, low-cost way to improve dental care access and oral health for people with severe mental illness.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (480 people) testing a behavioral intervention, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention relies on link workers, which may not be available in all settings.
