Can existing COVID drug beat dengue? new trial begins
NCT ID NCT06551844
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing two antivirals—molnupiravir (used for COVID-19) and a lab-made antibody called VIS513—in 500 people with early dengue. Participants must have had fever for less than 48 hours and a positive rapid test. The goal is to see if these drugs can clear the dengue virus faster and reduce symptoms, while also checking for side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
molnupiravir (an antiviral drug) and VIS513 (a monoclonal antibody)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a treatment that shortens dengue illness and reduces severe complications.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with only 500 participants, so results may not apply to all dengue patients. The drugs may not speed up recovery or could cause side effects.
