Pharmacies could become frontline detectives for dementia
NCT ID NCT07504965
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study is testing whether neighborhood pharmacies can help identify older adults with early memory problems and guide them to the right support. Over 1,000 participants aged 60 and older will take a digital memory test at their pharmacy. If the test shows concerns, the pharmacy staff will refer them to a doctor or support service. The goal is to see if this approach improves quality of life and makes it easier for people to get help sooner.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that pharmacies are a practical place for early dementia screening, potentially improving access to care for many older adults.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not prove that screening in pharmacies actually improves health outcomes or quality of life.
