Balloon battle: more inflation points may stop watery eyes
NCT ID NCT07225244
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using four balloon inflation points instead of two during a tear duct procedure (dacryoplasty) better relieves constant tearing. Fifty adults with blocked tear ducts will be randomly assigned to one method. Success is measured by how often patients need to dab their eyes and by tear film height.

- Balloon dacryoplasty device (LacriCATH)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that using four inflation points works better than two for relieving watery eyes, leading to a more effective standard procedure.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The difference between methods might be small or not clinically meaningful.
