Blood marker may predict deadly bleeding in Life-Support patients
NCT ID NCT07039513
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether changes in a blood marker called D-dimer can warn doctors about serious bleeding in patients on ECMO, a life-support machine for heart or lung failure. Researchers will track 100 intensive care patients and measure D-dimer levels over time. The goal is to find a threshold that signals high bleeding risk within the next 24 hours, which could help prevent complications.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict and prevent life-threatening bleeding in ECMO patients, making the treatment safer.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not find a clear threshold, and results may not apply to all ECMO patients.
