Summary
This study tested whether adding curcumin (the active compound in turmeric) to the standard medication risperidone could improve quality of life and reduce inflammation in people with schizophrenia. Forty-four men took either risperidone alone or risperidone plus curcumin for 8 weeks. Researchers measured changes in quality of life and levels of an inflammatory marker called IL-1β.
