NCT ID NCT07485972
First seen Apr 13, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study looked at whether continuously monitoring the pressure of the breathing tube during laparoscopic surgery can reduce airway problems like sore throat, cough, and hoarseness after the operation. 95 adults having elective laparoscopic abdominal surgery were randomly assigned to one of three cuff pressure monitoring methods. The goal was to see if continuous monitoring leads to fewer complications compared to checking pressure every 30 minutes or using a standard cuff-leak technique.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple change in how breathing tubes are managed during surgery to reduce patient discomfort afterward.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 95 participants, so results may not apply to all surgeries or patients. The findings are about symptom reduction, not a cure or major treatment.
As listed by the trial registrant
The condition terms exactly as the trial's registrant entered them.
