Blood test could spot lingering lung cancer after surgery

NCT ID NCT05254782

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a liquid biopsy (a blood test that looks for cancer DNA) can find tiny amounts of leftover cancer in people who have had surgery for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer. The goal is to see if this test can predict which patients might have their cancer come back, so they can get additional treatment sooner. The study will enroll 360 participants across multiple hospitals.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
liquid biopsy (ctDNA detection)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could help identify lung cancer patients at high risk of recurrence after surgery, guiding them to additional curative treatment earlier.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. The ctDNA test may not reliably predict recurrence, and results may not change outcomes.
