Blood test could help doctors switch cancer drugs faster

NCT ID NCT05770531

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing whether a simple blood test that looks for tumor DNA (ctDNA) can help doctors decide when to switch treatments in people with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. The study compares standard care with a strategy where ctDNA results guide an earlier switch to the drug sacituzumab govitecan. About 160 participants will be enrolled to see if this approach improves how long the cancer stays under control.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Sacituzumab govitecan

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could help doctors detect when chemotherapy is failing earlier and switch to a more effective treatment, potentially improving survival and quality of life for patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer.

What could go wrong

This is a phase 2 trial with only 160 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The ctDNA test is still investigational, and there is no guarantee it will lead to better outcomes or that sacituzumab govitecan will work better than standard care.
