Blood test may reveal if radiotherapy is working for liver cancer
NCT ID NCT06885879
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how pieces of tumor DNA circulating in the blood change in 15 liver cancer patients receiving a precise type of radiotherapy called SBRT. Researchers will take blood samples before, during, and up to 6 months after treatment to see if these DNA changes can help tell if the cancer is responding. The goal is to find a better way to monitor treatment than relying on standard scans, which can be misleading for months after radiotherapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple blood test to monitor how well radiotherapy is working for liver cancer patients, replacing unclear imaging results.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 15 participants. It is designed to observe changes, not to prove a treatment works, so results may not apply broadly.
