Freezing nerves could replace opioids for broken rib pain

Summary

This study tests a single treatment that freezes nerves to provide months of pain relief for people with broken ribs. The goal is to reduce the need for opioid painkillers and their side effects. About 120 adults with 1-6 rib fractures will receive either the freezing procedure or a sham treatment, and their pain and opioid use will be tracked for two months.
