Hair salons join the fight against high blood pressure in women of color
NCT ID NCT07042386
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study will test whether training hair stylists to check blood pressure, combined with home monitoring, health coaching, and pharmacist support, can help Black and Hispanic women lower their blood pressure. About 144 women who visit participating salons will be randomly assigned to the full program or enhanced usual care. The study focuses on feasibility and early signs of effectiveness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
behavioural intervention (salon-based blood pressure screening, home monitoring, coaching, pharmacist support)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a practical, community-based way to help Black and Hispanic women manage high blood pressure and reduce related health risks.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (144 participants) testing feasibility, not a large trial. It may not show significant blood pressure improvement or be scalable to other communities.
