New cream aims to fade dark spots naturally

NCT ID NCT05986123

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested a cream made from natural plant extracts, niacinamide, and arbutin to see if it safely lightens dark spots (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) on the skin. Twenty-five healthy Malaysian adults used the cream twice daily for 20 weeks. Researchers measured changes in skin spots and checked for side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Topical cream containing niacinamide, arbutin, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a safe, natural option for fading dark spots left after skin injuries or inflammation.

What could go wrong

This was a small, completed study with only 25 healthy adults, so results may not apply to everyone. The cream is cosmetic and not a treatment for any disease.
