Do steroid shots work as well for carpal tunnel in diabetics?
NCT ID NCT07433257
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will give a steroid and numbing injection to 60 people with carpal tunnel syndrome, half of whom also have type 2 diabetes. Researchers will track pain, nerve function, and hand strength for 12 weeks to see if the diabetes group recovers as well as those without diabetes. The goal is to understand if this common treatment works similarly for both groups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
triamcinolone acetonide (a corticosteroid) plus lidocaine (a local anesthetic)
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could show that a simple injection works equally well for people with diabetes, helping guide better treatment for this group.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It does not test a new treatment, just compares recovery in two groups.
