Could cord blood be the key to soothing dry eyes?
NCT ID NCT07089511
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether eye drops made from cord blood plasma can relieve symptoms of moderate to severe dry eye disease better than standard artificial tears. Researchers will compare the cord blood drops combined with cyclosporine to a control treatment of hyaluronic acid and cyclosporine. The trial aims to enroll 100 adults with dry eye and will measure changes in corneal staining after two months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cord blood platelet poor plasma eye drops
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more effective option for people with moderate to severe dry eye that doesn't respond well to artificial tears.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial comparing two treatments, so results may not be conclusive. The cord blood drops are experimental and may not work better than the standard treatment.
