New drug cocktail aims to boost immune attack on Hard-to-Treat cancers
NCT ID NCT04317105
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding the targeted drug copanlisib to two immunotherapy drugs (nivolumab and ipilimumab) can better control advanced solid tumors that have changes in the PIK3CA or PTEN genes. About 54 adults with cancers that have spread or cannot be removed will receive the combination. Researchers will monitor side effects and check if tumors shrink or stop growing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- copanlisib, nivolumab, ipilimumab
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced solid tumors that have specific genetic changes, potentially slowing or shrinking the cancer.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-phase trial with only 54 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug combination may cause significant side effects, and it is not yet known if it works better than standard treatments.
