Cool roofs combat climate heat to shield Islanders' health

NCT ID NCT06570993

Summary

This study tested whether painting roofs with a special reflective coating could help keep homes cooler in Niue, a Pacific island nation facing record heat. Researchers compared health and home environment data from 288 adults living in houses with either the new cool roof coating or their standard roof. The goal was to see if this simple home upgrade could reduce heat exposure, improve residents' physical and mental health, and lower household energy costs.
