Brain Oxygen-Guided blood pressure: a new ICU approach?
NCT ID NCT07296029
First seen Jan 02, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This small pilot study tested whether it's possible to set personalized blood pressure targets for critically ill patients based on their brain's oxygen levels. Sixteen ICU patients with respiratory failure or shock had their brain oxygen monitored for 24 hours to find their optimal blood pressure. The goal was to see if doctors could then keep blood pressure in that range for 48 hours and track whether this reduced delirium. The study focused on feasibility, not on proving a treatment works.
