New computer tests aim to detect concussion effects in young rugby players
NCT ID NCT05719844
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a set of computerized attention tests can identify attention problems caused by a concussion in young rugby players aged 11 to 25. Thirty athletes who recently had a concussion will take the tests, and their results will be compared to those of 60 athletes who have never had a concussion. The goal is to see if these tests can reliably detect concussion-related attention issues, which could help doctors and coaches make safer decisions about when a player can return to sports.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a reliable, quick way to spot attention issues after a concussion, helping guide return-to-play decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (90 participants) focused on diagnosis, not treatment. The tests may not be sensitive enough to detect all concussion effects.
