Which nerve block wins for shoulder surgery pain?
NCT ID NCT07233681
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compared two ways to manage pain after shoulder surgery: a combination of two nerve blocks (suprascapular and infraclavicular) versus a single block (serratus posterior superior intercostal plane block). Thirty adults having arthroscopic shoulder surgery received one of the two techniques. Researchers measured pain scores and how much extra painkiller (tramadol) patients needed. The goal was to see if one method provides better pain relief.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If one nerve block technique proves better, it could improve pain control and reduce the need for strong painkillers after shoulder surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both techniques involve risks like infection or nerve damage.
