Pill cam could spot hidden colon cancers in blood infection patients

NCT ID NCT06919068

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a tiny camera in a pill (colon capsule endoscopy) can find colorectal cancer or precancerous growths in people who have had a bloodstream infection with certain gut bacteria. About 100 adults will swallow the camera 4-8 weeks after leaving the hospital. The goal is to see how common hidden colon tumors are in this group.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
PillCam Colon 2 (colon capsule endoscopy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that colon capsule endoscopy is a useful tool to find hidden colorectal cancers in patients with certain bloodstream infections.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study, not a treatment trial. The capsule may miss some tumors, and results may not apply to the general population.
