Chilling solution for surgical bleeding? heart study tests cold platelets

NCT ID NCT06147531

Summary

This pilot study is testing whether platelets (blood cells that help clotting) stored in the cold work as well as standard room-temperature ones to control bleeding in adults undergoing heart surgery. The main goal is to see if a larger future trial is feasible by checking if enough patients can be recruited, if the cold platelets are available when needed, and if doctors follow the assigned treatment. It involves 150 patients at two Canadian heart surgery centers who are at higher risk of needing a platelet transfusion.
