Common Anti-Inflammatory drug may protect hearts during risky surgery

NCT ID NCT05726019

Summary

This study tested whether giving the anti-inflammatory drug colchicine to patients before and after heart bypass surgery could reduce serious complications. It involved 100 patients who had recently suffered a heart attack and needed bypass surgery. Patients received either colchicine or standard care for 30 days around their surgery to see if it prevented problems like irregular heartbeats, inflammation, or further heart damage.
