New combo procedure aims to fix heart rhythm and prevent stroke in one go

NCT ID NCT07450755

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will test a combined procedure in 150 people with atrial fibrillation (AFib) who are at risk for stroke. Doctors will use pulse field ablation to correct the heart's rhythm and then close off a small pouch in the heart (the left atrial appendage) to prevent blood clots. The goal is to see if doing both at once is safe and effective, potentially reducing the need for long-term blood thinners.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Pulse field ablation and left atrial appendage closure devices (Farapulse, Watchman Flx)
What this could lead to
If successful, this combined procedure could offer a one-time treatment to control atrial fibrillation and reduce stroke risk, potentially lowering the need for long-term blood thinners.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage registry with no control group, so results may not prove superiority over standard care. Risks include procedure-related complications like bleeding, stroke, or heart damage.
