Breathing for the brain: can CO2 gas save brain cells during stroke surgery?

NCT ID NCT05051397

Summary

This study is testing if carefully raising the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) in a patient's blood during emergency stroke surgery can improve blood flow to the endangered parts of the brain. It will compare two groups of 50 patients having surgery to remove a blood clot: one group will have slightly elevated CO2 levels, while the other will have normal levels. The goal is to see if this simple gas adjustment can protect more brain tissue before the clot is removed, potentially leading to better recovery.
