Smart oxygen machine could ease breathing for COPD patients
NCT ID NCT07222410
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a device called Airvo 3, which automatically adjusts oxygen levels, can keep COPD patients' blood oxygen in a healthy range better than manual adjustments by nurses. About 70 hospitalized adults with COPD and low oxygen will take part. The goal is to see if the smart system reduces time spent with too little or too much oxygen.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Closed loop oxygen control device (Airvo 3 in OptiO2 mode)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could make oxygen therapy more precise and reduce the need for constant nurse adjustments in hospitalized COPD patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small early-stage study with only 70 participants, so results may not apply to all COPD patients. The device may not significantly improve oxygen control over standard care.
