Could customizing gut lengths in bypass surgery boost weight loss?

NCT ID NCT06293703

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two versions of gastric bypass surgery for people with severe obesity. One method uses fixed lengths for the rerouted intestine, while the other customizes the lengths based on each patient's total small bowel length. The goal is to see if the customized approach leads to greater weight loss and better control of obesity-related conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure. About 262 participants will be followed long-term to measure outcomes.
