Back pain or blocked arteries? new study aims to tell them apart

NCT ID NCT07469020

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study will check how common peripheral artery disease (PAD) is in people who need surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Both conditions can cause leg pain, making PAD hard to spot. Researchers will use a special CT scan to find PAD and compare it with simpler tests like pulse checks and ultrasound. About 49 adults will take part, helping doctors choose the best way to diagnose PAD in this group.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
contrast-enhanced CT scan
What this could lead to
If successful, this could improve how doctors diagnose peripheral artery disease in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis, leading to better treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 49 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The CT scan also carries risks from contrast dye.
