Virtual reality and pills could help kidney patients think clearer
NCT ID NCT07272733
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study looked at whether remote virtual reality rehabilitation and a ketoacid supplement (Ketosteril) could help people with chronic kidney disease (stages 3b-5) who also have mild cognitive issues. The 15 participants were split into groups: one got the supplement, one did virtual reality rehab at home, and one followed usual care. The goal was to see if these approaches could improve thinking, balance, and daily function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ketosteril (ketoacid amino acid supplement)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a way to improve thinking and physical function in kidney disease patients using home-based virtual reality therapy and supplements.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, completed study with only 15 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is a combination of approaches, making it hard to know which part helps.
