Can a simple blood test predict prostate cancer return?

NCT ID NCT07222436

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is collecting blood samples from 24 men with high-risk localized prostate cancer before they have their prostate removed. Researchers will use a highly sensitive test to look for tiny bits of tumor DNA floating in the blood. The goal is to see if this DNA can help predict which cancers might come back after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a blood test that helps doctors predict which prostate cancers are likely to return after surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage observational study (24 participants) that only collects blood samples—it does not test any treatment, so it may not lead to a usable test.
