NCT ID NCT04680000
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding monthly booster sessions to standard cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps people with chronic pain manage their symptoms better over 18 months. About 716 military health system beneficiaries with chronic pain will receive either standard CBT or CBT with monthly boosters. Researchers will track changes in pain intensity and mental health to see if the extra sessions make a lasting difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (BCBT-CP)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could show that monthly booster sessions help people with chronic pain maintain better pain control and mental health over the long term.
- What could go wrong
- This is a pragmatic trial testing an existing therapy, not a new drug or cure. Results may not apply to all chronic pain patients, and the benefit of boosters may be small or absent.
