NCT ID NCT06684769
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a non-surgical treatment for deep gum pockets (furcation defects) in people with advanced periodontitis. One side of the mouth gets a chitosan brush plus enamel matrix derivative; the other side gets the brush alone. The goal is to see if the added gel improves gum attachment and reduces bleeding. Forty adults will be followed for 12 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Enamel matrix derivative (Emdogain) applied with an oscillating chitosan brush
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a non-surgical way to improve gum attachment and reduce inflammation in deep gum pockets around molars.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants. The benefits may be modest, and results may not apply to all types of gum disease.
