New combo therapy aims to tame tough pancreatic tumors

NCT ID NCT07407231

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether adding a precise, high-dose form of radiation (SBRT) after standard chemotherapy can help control locally advanced pancreatic cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. Eighteen adults with this type of cancer will receive chemotherapy first, and if their disease hasn't worsened, they'll get SBRT to the main tumor, followed by more chemo. The goal is to see how well the tumor responds and how long it takes for the cancer to progress.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

chemotherapy (e.g., FOLFIRINOX or gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel) followed by ablative stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could offer a way to better control locally advanced pancreatic tumors, potentially delaying disease progression and improving outcomes without needing surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-phase study (18 participants) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The combination of chemotherapy and radiation also carries risks of side effects like fatigue, nausea, and damage to nearby organs.
