Can a smart glucose monitor keep blood sugar in check after hospital leave?
NCT ID NCT07414277
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two ways of tracking blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes who use insulin after leaving the hospital. One group uses a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) that shows real-time levels and trends, while the other group uses traditional fingerstick tests. The goal is to see if CGM leads to better blood sugar control over 12 weeks, with follow-up at 24 weeks. 160 adults aged 18–80 with type 2 diabetes and an HbA1c between 8% and 13% are being recruited.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring (RT-CGM) device
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could show that using a continuous glucose monitor helps people with type 2 diabetes manage their blood sugar better after leaving the hospital.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small, early-stage trial (160 people) comparing two monitoring methods, not testing a new drug or cure. The results may not apply to all patients, and the device itself does not treat diabetes—it only tracks glucose levels.
