Can a simple ultrasound replace CT scans for detecting internal bleeding after trauma?

NCT ID NCT05627908

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a special ultrasound (CEUS) can find hidden bleeding pockets (pseudoaneurysms) in the liver, spleen, or kidneys after an injury, just as well as the standard CT scan. About 385 adults with abdominal trauma will be followed over time with both tests. If CEUS proves reliable, it could reduce the need for repeated CT scans and radiation exposure.
