Could a simple silicone ring prevent dangerous bleeding in pregnancy?
NCT ID NCT07667777
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a silicone cervical pessary can reduce vaginal bleeding and help women with placenta previa carry their pregnancy longer. About 190 pregnant women with this condition will either receive the pessary or standard care. The goal is to see if this simple device can improve safety for both mother and baby.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cervical pessary (Arabin pessary) - a silicone device placed in the vagina to support the cervix
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give doctors a simple, non-surgical tool to reduce dangerous bleeding and help women with placenta previa carry their pregnancy longer.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with only 190 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The pessary could cause discomfort, infection, or fail to reduce bleeding.
