Brain oxygen monitoring may help prevent ICU delirium
NCT ID NCT07296029
First seen Jan 02, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This small pilot study tested whether it is possible to set personalized blood pressure targets for critically ill patients based on their brain's oxygen levels. Researchers monitored 16 ICU patients with respiratory failure or shock for 24 hours to find each patient's optimal blood pressure, then aimed to keep them at that level for 48 hours. The main goal was to see if this approach is feasible, and they also checked for delirium, a common complication in the ICU.
