Antibiotic levels tracked in lung fluid of ventilated pneumonia patients

NCT ID NCT04171674

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looked at how the antibiotic ceftobiprole spreads in the blood and lungs of 12 adults with severe pneumonia who needed a breathing machine. Researchers gave a high dose continuously for 24 hours and took blood and lung fluid samples to measure drug levels. The goal was to see if the standard dose reaches high enough levels in the lungs to kill bacteria. This was a small, observational study to gather information, not to test a new treatment.
